Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy - Treatment for deeper abnormal varicose veins and spider veins.
What is involved in this procedure?
This procedure is very effective in the treatment of deeper abnormal veins. Traditionally, surgery was required to remove these deeper veins. Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy is similar to conventional sclerotherapy. The major difference is that the doctor has an ultrasound to accurately direct injections into diseased veins and avoid vital structures.
Ultrasound is the key to success in this technique, guiding both the placement of and the number of injections required according to each individual patient. Follow up ultrasound examination will confirm success and assist by guiding additional treatment if required.
Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy is not a cure for varicose veins. Even though it may permanently remove existing veins it cannot prevent the development of new varicose veins over time. Subsequent treatment of these veins may be required. Treating varicose veins will tend to retard the progression of varicose veins and spider veins.
Dr Lekich uses the highest resolution imaging system available to assist with the accuracy of the injections. |
